Monchhichi Small Plate 3 Designs - Made in Japan, Katani Ware
Monchhichi is a charming doll character with a signature thumb-sucking pose and freckles, first released by Sekiguchi in 1974. Its innovative design—featuring a plush body combined with a soft vinyl face, hands, and feet—captured hearts immediately and sparked a huge craze upon its debut.
Starting the following year, Monchhichi was exported overseas and quickly became popular around the world.
Although sales were temporarily suspended outside of Paris beginning in 1985, strong demand from fans led to its reintroduction in 1996. While evolving with the times, Monchhichi has remained beloved since its launch in 1974, with over 70 million dolls sold across more than 30 countries to date.
Loved by fans worldwide, Monchhichi celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.
This adorable small plate is a collaboration between traditional Kutani ware and Monchhichi. Each piece features beautifully hand-painted, vibrant overglaze decorations, showcasing the artistry of Kutani ceramics.
It makes a thoughtful gift for someone special, whether for Mother's Day, a birthday, or as a token of appreciation.
