Monchhichi Cup 3 Designs - Made in Japan Kutani Ware
“Monchhichi” is a charming plush doll featuring its signature thumb-sucking pose and freckles, first released by Sekiguchi in 1974.
Its innovative design—combining a plush body with soft vinyl (sofubi) face, hands, and feet—along with its adorable appearance, sparked a huge craze immediately upon its release.
Beginning the following year, Monchhichi was exported overseas and quickly became popular around the world.
Although sales were temporarily suspended outside of Paris starting in 1985, strong demand from fans led to its reintroduction in 1996. Evolving with the times while maintaining its appeal, Monchhichi has sold in more than 30 countries, with cumulative sales exceeding 70 million units since its debut in 1974.
Loved by fans worldwide, Monchhichi celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.
This item is a charming soba choko (small cup traditionally used for dipping soba noodles) created through a collaboration between traditional Kutani ware and Monchhichi. It features vibrant overglaze-painted designs, each carefully hand-painted one by one.
Presented in an elegant gift box, it also makes an excellent gift.
