Starbucks Japan Ceramic Treasure Ship
「Starbucks Japan Jimoto Made+ Collection」
A Treasure Ship Carrying Dreams and Hopes Alongside Coffee Beans
This piece was created as a treasure ship sailing the seas together with mermaids and whales. At the bow, a decorative tassel is attached to ward off evil, while rice bales are loaded onboard. At the stern, sacks of coffee beans are placed, symbolizing a vessel that brings not only coffee beans from farms around the world but also dreams and hopes.
The character for "獏" (baku), depicted on the sail, refers to a mythical creature said to eat bad dreams. It has traditionally been painted on treasure ships as a symbol of protection, to ward off misfortune and ensure peace and happiness. In keeping with this tradition, the character is featured here to convey a heartfelt wish for calm and well-being.
